The Forums are Open!

I’ve finally put together the forums for mrheggart.com.

So come on over and check them out – there’s a bunch of different ones there.

These are the topics I’ve got up there at the moment:

1. Business Studies Q & A

2. General Chat

3. Teacher Talk

4. Computer Games – Reviews, Comments and Discussions.

Any other suggestions, I’ll put them up right away! All welcome.

Marc is on the move….

Marc has been in touch; he’s done his Spanish lessons, been attacked by piranhas and found the lost city of gold.

Or something like that.

Here’s a link to a map showing where he is: Map

And the standard link to his travelblog:Blog

Worth reading, some funny bits here.

A pretty cool website…

Okay, I don’t really do advertising on this site, but this one is free and really cool. This is what’s called a text-to-movie site; and it does just that – turns a script you write into a live performance, with a whole bunch of very cute actors and backdrops! All thanks to a little project called Xtranormal.

Very impressive. Here is the link.

And here is a video I made, introducing an assessment task for some students last year, just to show you how cool it is:

First Real Entry

I’m pretty pleased with the start of MrHeggart.com. I like the look of the pages, and I’ve been impressed with the number of hits I’m getting so far. I’ve also been really impressed with Google Adsense. The ads are actually really appropriate – one of the other learning advisors at school was looking at my website and was so distracted by the good stuff on the ads, he forgot to check out the rest of the site! Regardless of that, I’ve almost raised $30 so far, and that is only in 1 week, so I’m pretty happy.
I’ve a few other plans for the website, however. Firstly, and I will be working on this throughought the holidays, I intend to get a lot of educational and fun games up there. To do this, I’ll need to know how to embed the flash into the website, but I don’t envisage any great problems with that. In addition, I want to enable comments on this blog, and also try to update it a little more regularly. I think I’ll keep the entries short and simple, and related to educational news rather than my experiences in particular.
Anyway, the bottom line is: come back soon and see the site.

The Beginning

MrHeggart.com has begun. This will be my personal website. I’ve decided that I could use more of an online presence – a place to store interesting ideas and documents, and share opinions with people – and how better to do it with my own website? This website is being hosted by crazy domains, and I’ve registered the domain name with them as well. I’m quite excited by the prospect. Originally I was going to design the whole thing on a WYSIWYG editor like Kompozer (which has the added benefit of being free) but I changed my mind and decided that I’d rather edit my own code and learn a little about HTML and CSS along the way. Therefore, I’m editing this using Aptana (which is open source as well, and very good) and uploading it with Filezilla. I’ll keep track of all the developments over time – any comments and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. As of this moment, I haven’t set up the comments feature (don’t know how, yet) but when I do, I’ll let you know. Meanwhile, I can be contacted via keith@mrheggart.com
