A very brief note to let all my readers know that I have been accepted into my Ed D program! Hooray.

Submitting Doctoral Application

Okay, I’ve done it. I’ve submitted my doctoral applicaiton for an Ed D at UTS. That means that, should I be accepted, I will be committed to at least 4 years, but more likely 5 or 6 until I have finished it. My thesis title, at this point, is: Possibilities and challenges for ‘thick’ citizenship educaiton in the digital age for Australian stage 5 students. Deep breath. I’ve been really assisted by the academic who will become my supervisor: Rick Flowers, who’s found the time to meet with me a number of times to explain the process of applying. It’s pretty involved, especially the documentation I had to provide.

In many ways, I think I’ll be quite lucky to be accepted. A lot of the documentation was interested in whether I had produced any previous research papers, or even been involved in research at a high level. I didn’t even do honours in my BA BEd course; not because I couldn’t, but because I didn’t want to – I wanted to get out there and teach. And of course, my M Ed was by coursework, so there was limited research at length in there. Luckily, though, I did do two courses that will hold me in good stead – research design and research perspectives, which served as a brief, but very good introduction to research practice.

I should hear back in about 3 weeks.
